Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy

Admission to the graduate school requires the completion of all standard admissions requirements in addition to the program-specific admission requirements outlined below.

Applicants to the MA in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy Program must submit an essay that addresses all of the topics listed see below. Your essay should be approximately 500 words in length and is submitted electronically as part of the online application.

• What life experiences led to your desire to become a marriage, couple, and family therapist?
• Why are you specifically interested in Lewis & Clark’s Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy program?
• Tell us about a time in which you received critical feedback that was difficult for you to hear. How did you respond to this? What did you learn about yourself?

We require letters of recommendation from three individuals who know you and are qualified to evaluate your academic competence, character and/or experience in professional or leadership roles. Professors, supervisors, and employers are often the best sources. References from a personal therapist, family members, or friends are not accepted. 

All applicants must hold a minimum 2.75 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or the equivalent in their undergraduate degree.

Applicants who have an GPA of less than a 2.75 on their undergraduate, degree-posted transcript are required to provide a statement that explains their previous academic record

Qualified applicants will be invited to interview with faculty. Selection will be based on initial faculty review of completed applications. The admission interviews for 2024 are scheduled for Saturday, February 17th and Friday, March 1st.

Admitted applicants will be required to confirm their intent to enroll and pay a (non-refundable) $100 tuition deposit to secure a spot in the program. The tuition deposit will be credited toward the student’s first term of enrollment.
